Marcela Riaño Caro is a Molecular Diagnostics and Laboratory Strategy Leader with more than fifteen years of international experience across in vitro diagnostics at Abbott Laboratories, DiaSorin and Roche Diagnostics in Canada and Latin America. She is a bacteriologist and clinical microbiologist trained at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana with graduate work in molecular biology.

Marcela Riaño Caro is a Molecular Diagnostics and Laboratory Strategy Leader whose work spans peer-reviewed molecular virology research, in vitro diagnostics product leadership, and clinical laboratory transformation across Latin America and Canada.
Her scientific record includes peer-reviewed publications on rotavirus, adenovirus and viral diversity in pediatric acute diarrhea (MEDICAS UIS, 2000; Revista Latinoamericana de Microbiología, 2006), and an author-attributed Rotavirus C VP7 sequence in NCBI GenBank (CAD70160.1) deposited via a collaboration with the Viral Gastroenteritis Section of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Her diagnostics leadership includes consultative laboratory work with Canadian national laboratory networks at Abbott Laboratories (2023–2026); regional marketing leadership for immunology and molecular portfolios across 12 Latin American markets at DiaSorin (2020–2023), including integration of Luminex molecular solutions; and more than a decade at Roche Diagnostics in Colombia and the wider LATAM region, spanning centralized laboratory solutions product management (including e801 and t511 launches), scientific and commercial training of hundreds of regional stakeholders, and field application support for molecular and sequencing platforms.
She is based in Ontario, Canada, and works in English and Spanish.
